What is it?

Shark finning is the killing of sharks soley for their fins. The Shark fin industry is a major industry, especially in Asian countries. Shark fin soup is a social status symbol of wealth. The soup itself is flavored with chicken or pork broth, while the shark fin is merely for texture.  Shark fins are valued at $300 per pound in some cases. Quite a few countries have made shark finning illegal, but the industry still needs end as a whole. Sharks are brought onto the deck of the fishing boat, decapitated of their fins and then thrown back in the ocean, dead. The increasing practice of shark finning has, without doubt, lead to a decline in the world's shark population. Sharks kill an estimated 10 people a year world wide. Human kill over 100,000,000 sharks per year.
